Heating transforms the raw THCa flower into THC, the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis that’s responsible for the high. So, how does this transformation happen?

When THCA is heated through a bong, vape, or blunt, the THCa flower undergoes a chemical change known as decarboxylation. This fancy term means that a carboxyl group (COOH) is removed from THCA, turning it into the psychoactive THC. This is where the magic happens!

The THC then gets absorbed through the lungs or gut, depending on the method of consumption, travels to the brain, and binds to cannabinoid receptors, CB1 to be specific.
